We protest against the intervention of the mayor of Kladno

The Association of Independent Theatres and the Association of Professional Theatres strongly protest against the intervention of the mayor of Kladno towards the upcoming premiere of MáMě by the Lampion Theatre. We consider the ban on the premiere from a political level, based only on the trailer, to be a censorship intervention, by which the city leadership once again proves its long-standing incompetence in managing cultural institutions.

Although the ban was subsequently lifted and the premiere took place, we consider this action unacceptable. Freedom of artistic expression is guaranteed in our country by the Charter of Fundamental Rights and Freedoms (Article 15, paragraph 2: Freedom of scientific research and artistic creation is guaranteed.). Any interference by public authorities with a work of art is unacceptable. We express our full support for the artistic management of the Lampion Theatre, which has long fulfilled the principles of public service theatre with its work.
