Theaters from all over the country help Ukraine

Since the beginning of the terrible events in Ukraine, a huge wave of help has risen in the Czech Republic, both from individuals, companies and institutions. Theaters from all over the country have also decided to help people fleeing the war and have joined the Call for Support for Ukraine of the Association of Professional Theaters of the Czech Republic. But it didn't stop at just flying Ukrainian flags, lighting up buildings, wearing ribbons and playing the Ukrainian anthem.

Brno

Jakub Przebinda, a member of the Brno Municipal Theatre, organized the transport of people and humanitarian aid material directly to the Ukrainian border. The transport was financed from previous contributions sent to the transparent account of Actor's 77 Charity zs, from which a total of approximately CZK 65,000 was used. The funds were also used to purchase medical supplies. Other members of the Brno Municipal Theatre also participated in the aid, forming the crews of cars driving to the Polish-Ukrainian border. The Brno for Ukraine concert took place on Freedom Square. The concert composed with Ukraine was broadcast live by Czech Television and Czech Radio.

The Brno Experimental Theatre Centre provides tickets to Ukrainian citizens for a symbolic price of 1 CZK and organises special events for the Ukrainian community, for example in HaDivadlo. The Husa na provádzku Theatre has initiated the coordination of Brno collection points for material aid. The Radost Theatre also offers discounted admission for Ukrainian citizens. It collaborates with a Ukrainian choreographer and provides cars with drivers as part of Brno's aid.

Ceske Budejovice

The South Bohemian Theatre organized a fundraiser and placed a money box for audience contributions in its foyer. It became a collection point for the Food Bank of the South Bohemian Region and housed Ukrainian refugees. It plans to present performances for Ukrainian children, entertainment for children in the crisis center, and benefit performances.

Hradec Kralove

The Drak Theatre and the International Institute of Figural Theatre joined the initiative of the region and the city to jointly organize a benefit concert in Hradec Králové. In addition, the theatre offered accommodation, a job in its teaching team and is planning creative programs for Ukrainian children.

Jihlava

The Horácké Theatre in Jihlava accommodated Ukrainian families in actors' apartments, where the place was made available for them by visiting actors who moved into the homes of their colleagues. Members of the accommodated families are involved in everyday life and also work in the theatre on a part-time basis. The theatre organizes performances for Ukrainian refugees and members also help individually.

Liberec

The Liberec Naive Theatre organized a benefit concert and is offering Ukrainian refugees free seats for the performance.

Olomouc

In addition to the material collection, the Moravian Theatre Olomouc also organized a concert to help Ukraine, the proceeds of which amounted to CZK 625,000. It offered asylum to the Kiev City Ballet, is preparing workshops for Ukrainian children and performances with Ukrainian subtitles.

Ostrava

The actors of the National Moravian-Silesian Theatre in Ostrava have organized a collection of material, including its transportation. They are offering a symbolic entrance fee of one crown for Ukrainian refugees with dramaturgical introductions in Ukrainian and are planning to offer job vacancies. They have also joined the Light for Mariupol event.

Pilsen

The Josef Kajetán Tyl Theatre in Pilsen presented a composed evening entitled White Acacia for Ukraine in support of the Ukrainian Academic Theatre of Musical Comedy by M. Vodyany in Odessa. The ALFA Theatre offered accommodation to Ukrainian families and also offers an engagement for a Ukrainian actress or a place in a workshop for a Ukrainian seamstress.

Prague

The National Theatre held a morning performance of Laterna magika for children from asylum centres over the weekend. The first Czech stage offers residencies and internships to Ukrainian professional artists, art school students and cultural workers. Before the performance, it offers Ukrainians access to free seats in the auditorium of the historic building. It is preparing Ukrainian subtitling. It has held several online discussion programmes on the topic of Ukraine. The Ukrainian anthem was played on the piazzetta of the National Theatre and the event Light for Mariupol took place.

The Prague Dejvické Theatre has organised trips to Ukraine, thanks to which it has managed to get food, clothing and hygiene supplies to the place, and has organised material collections and several benefit performances, for which the proceeds from tickets were donated to foundations or the Ukrainian Embassy. It will offer free tickets to performances to students of Ukrainian art schools. The Theatre in Dlouhá has placed money boxes in its premises for contributions to help Ukraine, is offering tickets for a symbolic crown to Ukrainian children and their companions, and has offered rehearsal space for various activities organised for Ukrainian children. The Theatre under Palmovkou has organised financial and material collections, secured a sponsor – a laundry for the refugee centre in the former Mars Hotel, and has offered accommodation and a job for Ukrainian actresses, wardrobe assistants, make-up artists and other professions. It plans to present performances with Ukrainian subtitles, combined with simultaneous childcare and entertainment for them, and is offering free admission to Ukrainian students. He is establishing cooperation with colleagues from Jam Factory in Lviv as part of the Face to Faith project.

Tesin

The Český Těšín Theatre accommodated Ukrainian families, organized a collection of items and finances, and arranged for artists from Lviv and Kiev to collaborate for a fee. The theatre travels to perform for children in Polish and is seeking to host three puppeteers who would study a play in Ukrainian and perform it for Ukrainian children in their native language.

Usti nad Labem

The Ústí nad Labem Drama Studio organized a day-long benefit event on March 20th, during which 115,000 CZK was raised.

Zlin

The Zlín City Theatre has accepted a choreographer from Kiev for an internship, and members of the theatre are helping out at the volunteer centre.
