The Association of Professional Theatres of the Czech Republic is an organization that brings together the majority of professional public service ensemble theatres in the Czech Republic. It promotes mutual cooperation between theatres, advocates for the creation of favorable conditions for theatre production, and represents theatres in communication with public administration bodies.
The association strives to support and create a wide range of accessible cultural experiences. It emphasizes the importance of regional and city theaters for the state, the region and the public. Through them, it advocates for continuing the rich tradition of Czech theater on the stages of drama, puppet, musical and other performative theaters. It represents professional theaters before public administration bodies in creating the most favorable (financial and administrative) conditions for theater production.
During its existence, the Association has represented theaters, for example, in the campaign to support the financing of regional theaters "Help Your Theater" in 2012. Since the spring of 2020, it has been involved in the coronavirus crisis, initiating the promotional campaign "We Raise the Curtain" to support theater attendance in connection with the COVID-19 disease. Most recently, the Association cooperated with the Ministry of Culture in the preparation of the Act on Public Cultural Institutions.

Why become a member of APD?
The association brings together members not only to facilitate communication between individual professional theaters, enable mutual assistance, debate and agreement, but also to promote the interests of its members in communication with public administration bodies and thus create the most favorable conditions for artistic creation.
How to become a member of APD?
A professional public service theatre that meets the conditions set out in the APD Statutes may become a member of the Association. The decision on the admission of a theatre is made by the Association Committee. The theatre is then represented in the Association by its statutory representative or a person authorised by it in writing.
