Theatre has an exceptional, irreplaceable place in Czech culture. Theatre gave hope to our ancestors in uncertain times of war, disease or crisis. It became a beacon of freedom even during the occupation of our country after 1968. It was the Czech theatres that, with a courageous strike, initiated a fundamental change in the situation in our country in 1989. The entire theatre network in the Czech Republic has been established for centuries in direct connection with the most important events in our history. It is also exceptional in its internal interconnectedness; all our theatres complement each other in various spheres of their activities, draw inspiration from their colleagues from other cities and further develop them exponentially for the benefit of Czech living culture. Every single theatre in any city is still the natural centre of its cultural life today.

The object and aim of the Association is mutual cooperation and assistance between theatres. The Association deals with issues of common interest. The Association is an organization of employers in the field of professional public service theatres.
The objectives of the Association are realized in particular by:
joint consultations of statutory representatives and providing information on the activities of individual theatres, organizing workshops and training employees
by exchanging experiences from theaters' negotiations with state and local government authorities,
proposals for a joint approach by statutory representatives of theatres in negotiations with state and local government bodies, especially where it is immediately necessary for further activities of theatres,
proposals for joint action by statutory representatives of theatres on internal issues of individual theatres.
In its activities, the Association also cooperates with other bodies and organizations whose activities may influence the activities and existence of theaters.
These are in particular: the Ministry of Culture, the Parliament of the Czech Republic, trade unions, bodies of the Czech Theatre Association, the Theatre Association, the Actors' Association, the Set Designers' Association, the Ministry of Education, other legal and natural persons, local government bodies and employers' associations.
The association is a permanent member of the Cultural Section of the Council for Economic and Social Dialogue under the Ministry of Culture of the Czech Republic, the Union of Employers' Associations , the PEARLE* organization - Performing Arts Employers Associations League Europe and Opera Europe .
